Claw anchors provide excellent hold in sand, rock, and mud bottoms. They are particularly well suited for ocean/sea use, as their design allows a 360Á turn without releasing, keeping the anchor set regardless of changing tide or wind. Claw anchors are most commonly stowed on the bow roller of the boat. Their design works with a lower scope of rope or chain, and provides a consistent, dependable set.
